Dentures & Partial Dentures

About This Treatment

For patients who have lost multiple teeth or require full-arch replacement, Forsyth Family Dental provides custom-fabricated complete and partial dentures designed to restore chewing function, facial support, and a natural-looking smile. Dr. Woodward takes a series of precise impressions and bite registrations to ensure the denture fits the unique contours of your ridges and aligns correctly with your jaw — a process that takes several appointments but results in a prosthetic that is stable, comfortable, and properly proportioned to your face. Implant-supported options are also discussed for patients seeking a more secure, fixed solution.

Frequently Asked Questions

The fabrication process for a well-fitted denture typically involves four to six appointments over four to eight weeks: initial impressions, custom tray impressions, bite registration and tooth selection, a wax try-in for fit and aesthetics, and final delivery with adjustments. Rushing this process produces poorly fitting dentures that cause sore spots and instability, so Dr. Woodward does not skip steps.

Some movement during the initial adjustment period — particularly with lower dentures — is normal as your tongue and cheek muscles learn to stabilize the prosthetic. However, persistent looseness after the adjustment period (typically four to eight weeks) warrants a relining or rebasing appointment, as the underlying bone ridge continues to resorb after tooth loss and the denture fit changes over time. Annual check-ups allow Dr. Woodward to monitor fit and reline proactively.

Removing dentures at night is strongly recommended — it allows the gum tissue to recover from the pressure of wearing the prosthetic during the day and significantly reduces the risk of denture stomatitis, a fungal infection of the palate caused by continuous denture wear. Dentures should be stored in water or a denture-soaking solution overnight to prevent the acrylic from drying out and warping.
